On International Sex Worker Day, we take a moment to celebrate the resilience and contributions of sex workers worldwide. This day not only commemorates their struggle for rights and recognition but also serves as a reminder of the remarkable individuals who have dedicated their lives to advocating for the dignity and well-being of sex workers. This day aims to challenge stigma, discrimination, and violence against sex workers while advocating for their rights to safety, dignity, and autonomy.

To honour these courageous women, we spotlight some influential female sex workers whose efforts have significantly impacted the perception and conditions of sex work in the UK and beyond.

In 2022, Colorado State Representative Brianna Titone (D) championed The Safe Reporting Assaults Suffered by Sex Workers Act, HB22-1288, allowing sex workers to report crimes or seek medical assistance without fear of prosecution. Titone’s motivation stemmed from a close friend’s ordeal, highlighting the urgency for legislative protection.
